End of year greetings

27 Dezember, 2010 (14:13) | Allgemein, Black Prophecy, DXStudio, Dungeon Crawler | No comments

Hey everyone,

Happy holidays everyone etc,etc… :)

Hope you all had a great time so far.

That was an interesting year and 2011 seems to get even more interesting for me and of course you guys:

1. Black Prophecy Open Beta will start early next year and the NDA of the closed beta was lifted:

http://blackprophecy.gamigo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8576

2. The Dungeon Crawler game:

We made some big progress. Currently we are nearly finished with all the features. Bach is working on the loca system and will then finish the last missing feature: Quests.

Also he did the first music piece for the game. Even as it is only a first draft, it sounds already wonderful.

I’m working on graphics assets: The main city is nearly done and some concepts for the first dungeon level are allready on it’s way.

Additionally I started on the HUD graphics to replace the ugly placeholder we have currently in place.

So in 2011 you will get alot of cool stuff so stay tuned.

Small update on the Dungeon Crawler project

30 Juli, 2010 (13:19) | DXStudio, Dungeon Crawler | No comments

Hey everyone,

Not much to show this time on the dungeon crawler side, as we are currently fully working on getting all features in and having a working alpha version soon. Most time went into the whole game framework, like a level editor, scene management, random dungeon system and the whole battle system and skill systems.

Everything is going very well and fast. We will be able to show off some  more interesting stuff then just gray box levels soon. So stay tuned.

Little update for the 2D dungeon generator.

26 Juni, 2010 (16:46) | DXStudio, Dungeon Crawler | 1 comment

Hey everyone,

I released a small update for my 2D dungeon generator for DXStudio.

Go over here to get it.

The only thing I changed since 1.0 is that the room placement routine now uses the space better, generating better looking dungeons.

Currently I merge my prototypes together to the real dungeon crawler game. I hope that I can show you some progress soon.

BTW: I’m not working alone anymore on this project. My team got an official +1 upgrade. This should speed up things alot.

Cheers and have a nice weekend!

“Final” version of the random 2D dungeon generator for DXStudio

24 Juni, 2010 (21:46) | DXStudio, Dungeon Crawler | 2 comments

Hey everyone,

I just released the “final” version of my DXStudio javascript based random dungeon generator example.

What’s new since the first release:

  • The generator can now create doors and columns at the right places. (Hopefully… ;) )
  • Cleaner code and some fixes.
  • Randomly placed stairs (1 up and 1 down)
  • More eye friendly tile set
  • Rendering optimazation. (Only the needed tiles gets rendered.

Here are some example shots of the dungeons:

Here you can download the dxstudio file: (If you get a *.zip file after download rename it to *.dxstudio)

Right click + save as for download.

I hope this is helpfull for some of you. If you want to edit this file you need the DXStudio editor. Just head over to the DXStudio webside and down load the Freeware editor if you haven’t already. It’s a damn fine 2D/3D game and simulation engine.

If you have questions let me know.

Cheers

Random dungeon generator for DXStudio using Javascript

22 Juni, 2010 (22:28) | DXStudio, Dungeon Crawler | No comments

UPDATE: Go over here for the newest version!

Hey everyone,

Here is another small update on my Dungeon Crawler.

For my game I’m thinking about using some random generated levels in some cases. As I like all this rogue like games, I started to experiment with some level generation routines.

As I did not find any use full example of a dungeon generator routine using Javascript I started to do it my self. After 10h of experimenting I got my first usefull results. Here are some screenshot example of a few results I get with this simple routine:

Far from perfect but good enough for the first try.

If you want to have a look at how the Javascript code looks like download the file here:

Click to Download

If you run the document there is a green button, if you click it the level will gets recalculated.

You have questions or feedback? Drop me a comment.

Hope you like it and have fun.

Cheers

Another small update on the Dungeon Crawler…

8 Juni, 2010 (20:18) | DXStudio, Dungeon Crawler, Silo3D | No comments

Hey everyone,
Here is another a short update:
I’m still working heavily on my dungeon crawler game in my spare time. Mainly story and game design stuff. Additionally I was working on the setting and on the overall performance of my documents. Here is one new shot which is a result of this performance tests. This is nowhere final or something, it’s more a test of what I can do on a poly budget of 200 per module :)

Medieval city street:

The light setup in the scene is realy just a fast test to see if the models are working. Actually I’m currently testing out lightmaps as solution with GI and so on.

Also the ground texture scale is wrong, the stones should be only half the size… ;)

Thanks for reading.

Cheers

Black Prophecy has finaly a publisher :)

9 März, 2010 (18:47) | Black Prophecy | 1 comment

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the 2 months silence. I was realy busy working on Black Prophecy at Reakktor, so my side projects didn’t got that much of my time.

But I’m happy to bring you the news, that we (Reakktor) are finaly able to announce that we have a publisher. :)

Here is the offical announcement:

———————————————————————————————

Black Prophecy: gamigo to publish the space action MMOG globally!
Hamburg, March 4, 2010 – gamigo AG and Reakktor Media GmbH have officially announced that they will be working together on the highly-anticipated space action MMOG Black Prophecy. gamigo owns the global distribution and publishing rights for the game. The Hamburg-based publisher thus lays the foundation for a new focus on becoming a global publisher and producer of free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online Games.

Patrick Streppel, gamigo’s CMO, is enthusiastic about the new game: „Reakktor’s Black Prophecy will breathe life back into a genre previously forgotten. The game features graphics of the highest quality, a rich and meaningful story, and strong community features. Since we’ve begun collaborating with Reakktor, we have expanded greatly upon the concept of the game and thus are able to offer one of the first top-of-the-line free-to-play MMOGs.”
A lot has happened in the development of Black Prophecy in the past few weeks. The biggest change has been the new direction as a free-to-play online game, previously unheard of for a game of this quality. Among other things, a crafting system was added and the layout of the game world was opened up. In-game dialogue will be recorded by professional voice actors. The one-and-a-half hour long orchestral soundtrack provides a rich and varied score of background music.

Kirk Lenke, CEO of Reakktor Media GmbH, said “We are excited to have found such a strong partner in gamigo for the publishing and distribution of our space action MMOG Black Prophecy. gamigo has the necessary skills and abilities to turn our product into a global MMOG blockbuster.”

Black Prophecy is expected go into closed beta testing in April 2010.

———————————————————————————————

So, me == very happy. :) If you want to know more about the game, head over to the official webside and register for the beta!

I will soon post more about both, Black Prophecy and my side projects. :)

Stay tuned!
